What Becomes Valuable Now?

Six contemplations on AI, abundance, advantage—and what becomes harder when more becomes possible.

AI is making extraordinary capabilities increasingly accessible: building, writing, analyzing, researching, prototyping, generating. Much of the conversation understandably asks what this makes easier.

I became curious about the other side of the question.

When capabilities that were once difficult, expensive or scarce become widely available, what changes around them? What becomes more valuable? What becomes harder to distinguish, preserve or develop? And what happens to the human and organizational capabilities that sit behind the things we make?

This series began in a room of founders, funders and builders in Vancouver, during a conversation about how AI is changing the way companies are built and funded. I came from a rather different professional world—institutions, philanthropy, design and organizational change—and found myself carrying questions from that room back into my own.
